University Hospital Federations

On May 27, 2019, the AP-HP, Inserm and the universities of Île-de-France launched the call for Fédérations Hospitalo-universitaires (FHU) projects. The aim of FHUs is to create a strong synergy between hospitals, universities and research organizations to improve medical research and the quality of care, but also to contribute to the rapid spread of innovation and greater international visibility.

University Hospital Federations

The hospital-university federations are designed to establish a strong link between medical and research teams, on specific medical themes, from fundamental research to the patient's bedside. 3 led by the Faculty of Health Sciences of Sorbonne University and APHP.Sorbonne Univeristé and 2 in association with Sorbonne University and led by other universities.

The 3 FHU projects supported by the Faculty of Health Sciences

IMProving Emergency Care (IMPEC): Improving emergency care

IMPEC is a research federation on emergency medicine, bringing together all the emergency services and SAMU/SMUR of the APHP. It is divided into 5 different workpackages

  1. Early care for the critically ill improve prognosis in serious pathologies (cardiac arrest, trauma and sepsis) through better initial medical care.
  2. Access to care and vulnerable populations Analyze and seek to limit difficulties of access to care and inadequate care for certain categories of vulnerable or underprivileged patients.
  3. Precision medicine and resource allocation Limit the use of unnecessary tests, procedures and treatments
  4. Paramedical research Developing paramedical research in the emergency department (nurses and psychologists)
  5. Medical pedagogy and human factors Improve practices and reduce the risk of error through pedagogical research and systemic analysis of human factors

MAMUTH: Musculoskeletal diseases and therapeutic innovations

Musculoskeletal diseases form a vast and heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by progressive degeneration of motor neurons in muscles and, more broadly, the musculoskeletal system. These pathologies have a functional and sometimes vital impact on patients, as well as a major societal impact.
The FHU MAMUTH aims to respond to various challenges, such as :

  • Improve knowledge of musculoskeletal diseases throughout life, from the prenatal period to old age.
  • Develop and promote the most effective and least invasive diagnostic, assessment and treatment techniques possible.
  • Promote comprehensive care centered on the patient's pathway and well-being

PaCeMM : Paris Center for Microbiome Medicine

The overall aim of the FHU "Paris Center for Microbiome Medicine PaCeMM is to transform the science related to the gut microbiome into new tools for medicine, and more specifically to

  • understand the mechanisms by which the microbiome is involved in disease pathogenesis,
  • identify microbiome-based biomarkers for diagnostic, prognostic or treatment response prediction purposes
  • develop new therapeutic strategies targeting or using the intestinal microbiome
